The Arrival
If you decide to adopt a Labrador puppy, that is a "friend for life", you will certainly realize that your days are full of joy despite the little pranks...
If you chose a Labrador puppy you might think you are bringing home a plush because it is so fluffy and soft, but be careful, it's not a toy.
When choosing your puppy make always the dog breeder help you, because, for example, if you have little children he will help you choose a quiet and calm puppy. But, once you are home, be careful and don't let your children stand over the dog all the time or it will get scared and it will start hiding. You should make the puppy feel safe and let it explore the new home and all the spaces it is allowed into. Try to spend lots of time with the puppy in the first weeks so it can get used to your routine...
If during its explorations it will leave you a "little present"...don't reproach it but take it outside and try to understand how many times it needs to be taken out.
For instance any time it wakes up, or after its meals, with patience and love it will learn not to dirty the house.
ATTENTION:
NEVER USE THE KENNEL OR THE CAGE AS A PUNISHMENT!
Now some recommendations for the safety of any kind of puppy:
- be careful of houseplants. Many of the most common plants are poisonous if the puppy bites them.
- be careful if you decide to use the garage as doghouse: it is full of poisonous substances such as motor oil, paint thinner, pesticide etc.
- be especially careful to heatstroke during summer, when it is very hot. Don't forget your little friend in the car, even if the windows are open.
There are still so many advise to give, but step by step you will get to know your fluffy friend, understand all its needs and love this beautiful breed.
